Designed around the confluence of the four basic elements of sun, water, air, and earth, creating harmony between nature and high technology. It will harness the power of the sun with solar panels and channel the energy of wind, using traditional malqaf technology and state-of-the-art wind turbines. Qatarium will also capitalize on the usage of seawater and thick walls of rammed earth to cool the interior spaces. The covered outdoor area between the "dune structures" and the "wave structures" is conceived as a space in its own right. This shaded courtyard, or breezeway, will be lined with cafes and restaurants on either side of the tributary. In addition to showcasing the underwater world in spectacular tanks and passageways of various sizes, Qatarium will include a carved-out portion of the Arabian Sea achieved via giant plexiglas walls to allow visitors to view marine life in its natural setting.
